Sunday Scribbling: Wings

Impressions and Images of Wings

The soul flies away at death.
Does the spirit have wings?

I'll fly away, oh glory, I'll fly away
One bright morning when this life is o'er
I'll fly away

Albert E. Brumley

Ah!what is this drawing my breath,
And stealing my senses away
O tell me, my soul is it death,
Releasing me kindly from clay!
Now mounting, my soul shall descry
The regions of pleasure and love,
My spirit triumphant shall fly,
And dwell with my savior above.
from an American Shape Note Hymn
****************

Little fairy wings...
Bright like flowers
fairies dance
The garden
and woodland
their home
No one sees them
when in their dancing
they rest
a moment
on
a favorite flower
****************
In the Disney film, Sleeping Beauty had three fairy godmothers. One wore blue, one green and one pink. At the end of the story they flitted about, arguing and changing Sleeping Beauty's dress to their favored colors.

The images of wings in Scripture are primarily of protection.
Wings cover from danger
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.
Psalm 91:4
Wings lift and carry to safety
You yourselves have seen...how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.
Exodus 19:4
*****************
Angel wings may signify their roles as heavenly powerful protectors.
*****************

When we were children, one of my sisters had very prominent shoulder blades. She said they were her angel wings. When she said that, I could easily imagine her shoulder blades as being the spot where wings would sprout from her back.
*****************
Pegasus, the winged horse. They don't like to be ridden (according to the Narnian Chronicles) and it is a great condescension on their part when they submit to having someone on their back. What an honor and a thrill it would be to mount the back of some winged creature, hold on tight and go soaring over a beautiful land.

Wings can be found in oh, so many places...
I have always loved angels- grew up with them! One on my right shoulder and one on my left!

Which child had not wished to have wings like an angel ?
Interesting tak eon the prompt (and now I see the reason behind your comment on my flying eagle ray...).
Thanks for visiting by the way.
