Our Winning Garden

Brent has grown another fine vegetable garden this year. I didn't realize quite how fine it was until he decided to enter some produce in the little county fair. He entered vegetables and herbs in thirteen classes and won thirteen ribbons. Wow! Of course little Miss Hands On had to take her turn holding the ribbons.
(She had a collision with the corner of a doorway a couple days earlier and you can just see the remnants of a nasty bruise on her cheek.)

She's discovered the cheesy smile.
It has been a season of plenty in the garden. I love having to buy hardly any vegetables during the summer and it's been nice to eat our own carrots, peppers (green, yellow and red), cucumbers and tomatoes at dinner every night. We have become one of those people who give away zucchini to whoever will take it and we have a ton of tomatoes again this year. I'm hoping to make lots of batches of Garden Fresh Tomato Soup to freeze for winter. This soup has such a full, rich flavor. Last year we enjoyed eating it throughout the cold months. It makes canned tomato soup seem so insipid.

Wow, look at all those ribbons! I can barely keep a plant alive, let alone make it grow vegetables!

There's something especially delicious about home grown veggies--you can't beat the taste of them. I especially love the way home-grown tomatoes taste!

(Thanks for stopping by my blog, and for your sweet comment!)
