ABC Wednesday

W is for...
weaving

Several years ago I had the opportunity to take a weaving class at this school. This is the weaving I made:
It was a wonderful experience.
The class was in an old two-room schoolhouse with creaky wooden floors and large windows. At the time, each classroom had a different type of loom--one had table looms and the the other was filled with upright Navajo looms. The Navajo weaving class was the one that fit best into my schedule, so that is what I took.

I loved working with the richly colored wool. I loved working with my hands to build a picture you could touch. Navajo weaving is a craft that takes concentration, yet the repetitive over-under,over-under motions relax the work-stressed mind. When I got home, I would feel as though I had been working hard, yet like I had been on vacation.
I would love to take up weaving again someday.

I met a lot of creative people today and in the past few weeks. This is very beautiful. Do you still weave?

Wonderful weaving photo.
My mother-in-law used to weave but she never had the patience to show me how.
I would have loved to learn how.

Thank you for your comment on my blog.
Strangely enough I originally had a section concerning the Disney Winnie the Pooh (did you notice that Disney dropped the dashes between the words) but because I don't really like the Disney style of Winnie-the-Pooh, I deleted it from the original post.

This is absolutely beautiful! Audrey Moore--someone I'd love to meet. When I lived in Pocatello in the 50's Navajo natives would be passing through town in their beautiful velvet and silver.
Good to hear from you again! Happy Wednesday.

Me again: you guessed right, it is Tasha Tudor, a favorite of mine too.
You did know she passed away last week?
:O(

This type of artwork takes so much patience but I just love your results. Terrific choice for letter W.

Gee, kudos to you for doing that! I'm afraid I'm not too "crafty" and avoid them at all costs. I'm very impressed. Thx for dropping by. :D

Beautiful! Growing up, our neighbor made weaving looms, I wonder if the looms at Damascus are any of his? We recently drove through Damascus en route to Boring/Gresham, it is still a quaint little community.

Oh - and I had not heard that Tasha Tudor passed away until I read that in one of the comments. So sad! She has always been a favorite of mine.
