U is for...
umbrage

As I was searching for a u word for ABC Wednesday, I discovered the word "umbrage". I already knew its most common definition: offense; annoyance; displeasure, as in to take umbrage. But I found it also has the meaning shade or shadows, as cast by trees.
There, maybe you just learned something!
This picture was taken from Lost by one of my favorite author/illustrators, David McPhail. His books have many humorous, dear touches that make the book tolerable and even enjoyable to read over and over and over again when it happens to be the favorite of a toddler.

Well, you learn something new every day. When I saw the picture, I wasn't sure how it tied in to the word, but thanks! :D

I love charmingly illustrated children's books, and David McPhail never phails to please.

Unbrage has the same root as umbrella--featured on many ABCs this week. In Spanish shade is sombra, so I would imagine that explains the sombrero.

Thanks for teaching me something new. The picture is beautiful and goes with your definition. I invite you to come see my U is for Use and Re-Use. -- Margy

I surely learnt something new with your post! :) And how similar little kids are... Mine always ask me to read over... and over... and over... ad nauseum, the books he loves most - which means that now he's almost five, I'm in trouble: I'm reading for him Harry Potter! It's not a little book anymore!
Loved your blog, really sweet, and your babies are adorable too.
Kisses from Nydia.
