Helping and Understanding

The leaves are long down from the trees, but I wanted to post this picture before fall completely hardens into winter. Here's Katya in her funny pants being a little helper a couple of weeks ago. As soon as she caught on to the fact that we were moving the raked leaves to the garden, Katya started picking up handfuls. She left a little trail as she carried her handfuls to the corner of the garden where she made her own little pile.
She hasn't grown out of helper mode yet. Now she wants to help clear the table after dinner. This motivates Brent and me to get the table cleared really fast, but she's thrilled when she gets to take care of the napkins or hot pads.
And I'm amazed at how her vocabulary keeps growing and how she understands what we say. Last night I noticed her hands were icy cold so I told her "Can you go get a sweater from your room?" I repeated it a couple of times as she stood and pondered. Then she marched off, turning to smile at me over her shoulder. I repeated the request encouragingly. Our house is really long and there are plenty of distractions for a toddler on a mission, so after a few moments of silence and no Katya, I called out "Are you getting a sweater?" A few seconds later she reappeared, proudly holding out her sweater. I was thrilled.

Those are some seriously funny pants! That was my first thought! Kinda like a toddler version of MC hammer pants!

I Loved it when Camille finally could understand directions! What an exciting and important step!
