ABC Wednesday

K is for...

keys

I picked these up at an antique shop years ago. They've always intrigued me: who did they belong to? where? what doors did they unlock? I love the way they are lots more fun to look at and have so much more character than modern cookie cutter keys.

I'll never know the histories of these keys, what people from a bygone generation used them, what parts of the country they may have seen, but now they make a nice wall decoration.

When I was a child we had a key like the middle one. It fit most of the locks in our house built in the late 1930's/early 40's.
I agree that these keys are much more interesting than the ones we get copied at Home Depot.

Oh, I love these keys! There are several of them posted today, but I particularly love the really old ones and, like you, wish they could talk and tell their story. Great post for "K" Day!

Very interesting looking keys. Perhaps someone has been looking for them for years now ;-)

Great choice! My hubby had to make a key for the village church some years ago, we felt we were really involved witht he history.

Thanks so much for participating, it is much appreciated. I am trying hard this week to visit every contributor.

Nice post. I love the mystery that finding old keys generates. When I worked in Dawson City, Yukon one year I found a ring of old keys in the gold fields, I still have them in a trunk. They have always peeked my curiousity. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.

I have some old keys in my post this week too, but they don't look as well-used as yours! I share your fascination with their history though. Keys, like other household objects, hold secrets about the lives of the people who used to own them, don't they?
