First Day of School

In a hopelessly behind, but oh well, going to give it a try anyway post, here are some pictures from our first day of school last September.

 

This year K is in 4th grade, T is in 1st.

 

 

 

M never wants to be left out of anything.  As a homeschooling family, she, in her own way, is as much a part of the student body as the others.

Usually I describe the various curriculum we're using for the year on our first day of school post.  Very quickly, here's a rundown of our curriculum this year:

 

Jesus time for both (or all):  A mixture of hymn studies, Telling God's Story, Year 2; Draw to Learn: Proverbs; and Bible lessons drawn from the FIAR Christian Character supplemental lessons.

K:  A Beka Language and Reading stories, Saxon Math, Pictures in Cursive, and for writing, My First Report (1st half of the year) and Writing Strands (2nd half).

T:  Silver Burdett reading, A Beka Language (and other activities), Getty-Dubay Italic Handwriting, and Singapore Math. 

 

This, along with Five in a Row Vol. 4 for K and Vols. 1-3 for T, keeps us plenty busy.  It has been a much different workload for me, having two students in different grades, along with a busy toddler.  But we have pretty much found a rhythm to the day, and found a rough schedule that works for us.  With other outside activities, I'm finding that we are rowing a bit less often during the week than in other years.  I'm sad about that-- I'm excited to discover the Vol. 4 books with K, but the way our family life is structured right now, I know we can only do so much.  Embrace what you have and let the rest go.  Maybe that should be my motto for the year.
