The English were on to something

How to get through that afternoon slump?  My first choice is always a nap.  If I'm already feeling rested, a brisk walk is great.  But often, naps and walks are not feasible.  However, I recently read this in a magazine:  "Having a latte and a cookie in the afternoon may make you sharper.  The combination of caffeine and sugar improves cognitive performance, attention, and memory, a study in the journal Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental reveals." (MSL March 2011)

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I love a nice cup of tea.  Nearly every morning I brew a cup before breakfast, then after the meal, it has usually cooled to just the right temperature.  My current favorite is Stash Chai Spice Black Tea.  I love the way tea makes you feel calm and alert at the same time.  I confess, I also crave the caffeine boost.  After reading the above quote, I tried some Good Earth Jasmine Green tea with a few M & Ms one afternoon, and it worked.  It made such a difference in the way I felt the rest of the day.  I've occasionally taken a "tea time" in the afternoon since then and it is a lasting respite.

As I worked on this post I did a Google image search for "cup of tea".  Naturally, I was most drawn to paintings of tea time and couldn't limit myself to just one.

But I think this sums it up best:
